Inspiration From History…

CROATOAN
Originally from Levittown NY, I currently reside somewhere along the coast in California with my wife/co-author Helen.
A lot of my creativity was born from my lifelong love of science fiction and horror. As a child I grew up on the original Dark Shadows, The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Doctor Who (which I still follow) and Anime.
A few of my favorite authors are HP Lovecraft, Jane Austen, Robert Asprin, Jodi Lynn Nye, Stephen King, Richard Matheson, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Edgar Allan Poe, and so many more.
However, I do not spend all our time sitting behind a desk writing. I like to get out and try new things. We also like to explore new places, sometimes with family or friends. I've gotten plenty of ideas thanks to these adventures. I like to draw from personal experience because I feel it lends a bit of authenticity to a story and its characters. Which is probably why Helen and I still love to attend conventions which involve sci-fi, fantasy, anime, comics, you name it. Yes, we are Geeks and proud of it.
The GIF above was basically me last night as we welcomed in the new year. I gave 2026 a warning that we would not tolerate any of the shenanigans we’ve experienced in 2025 and to behave itself and straighten up right off the bat. I guess we’ll all have to wait and see if it…
All good things must come to an end and my week-long $0.99 cent deal is no exception… How time flies! But never fear, everyone still has a chance to take advantage of this sale. Both “THE BRIDGE” and “THE SHIP”, the first and second books in my paranormal/mystery series, are available in all e-book formats…
Well, I finally had the Ablations done on my Sacroiliac joint. It’s been 3 days since the procedure actually took place, and I still have a fair amount of pain to contend with. I’m not too worried at this point. since I was told that it could take up to 10 days to really feel…
Here is the 2nd installment of the house we visited that is so full of lights and wonder. I swear, being able to walk among all those decorations was like being in a Winter Wonderland. The only thing missing was snow.
For those of you not familiar with a Hobbit Birthday Party it goes like this… My birthday is coming up on March 30th, but instead of asking for presents I’m giving one away to anyone who wants it. The present in this case is a FREE Kindle copy of “The Vampyre Blogs – Coming…
Before I get into promoting my new blog, I thought I should explain myself to you all. The reason why I’ve created “The Vampire Blogs” was simple. It’s part experiment, and part story building. With the popularity of vampires in books, it was only a matter of time before I found myself getting drawn in,…

Awesome post, Allan. I taught Virginia History and Language Arts in VA for six years. Your idea of taking these historical mysteries as a springboard for writing is awesome. THANKS!
Glad you like the idea. I’ve been finding it helpful to add a feeling of reality to story by drawing in some actual history.
You have been nominated for the ABC Award. You may pick it up at: http://chasingtheperfectmoment.com/awards/
If you choose not to that’s okay. Just know you were thought of!
